The Republican Turkish Party is a left party that was founded on 27 December 1970. After the partition of Cyprus in 1974, it continued its political life in Northern Cyprus. The party is known to have alternative opinions to president Denktash on the Cyprus issue. In the elections of December 2003, the CTP had the largest portion of the votes and participated to a coalition government founded with the Democrat Party.
